Nitrogen Air Separation
Nitrogen Air Separation: The separation of air into oxygen and nitrogen is an important process, and this separation process has been applied in an industrial scale such as oxygen (O2) enrichment from the air (medical devices) and nitrogen (N2) enrichment from the air (used as protecting atmosphere for oxygen-sensitive compounds) (Jeazet et al. 2012). Three technologies currently exist for separating oxygen and nitrogen from the air including cryogenic distillation, pressure swing adsorption (PSA), and membranes. Among these three technologies, cryogenic distillation is considered the most mature technology and allows for the production of both high purities (>99 %) and large-scale productions.
